Steve Case – An Internet Entrepreneur

Keith Scribner is based in Spokane, Washington. He is the principle/trustee at Scribner Investment Companies, a real estate investment company. Outside his work, Keith Scribner meets often meets with prominent political and business figures who visit Spokane. On one occasion Mr. Scribner met with Steve Case, the former chairman of America Online (AOL), at the Whitworth College campus.

Steve Case is best known to the American public as the leader of AOL. The company started as Quantum Computers Services in 1985. Thanks to Mr. Case, the company was among the first to introduce graphic chat environments and interactive fiction games. In 1991, he became CEO and changed the company’s name to AOL. Ten years later, the company merged with Time Warner.

Mr. Case also co-founded Revolution, a prominent investment firm with a diverse portfolio. Some of the over 50 companies in which it invested include Draft Kings, Vinfolio, and Sweetgreen.

Apart from his business endeavors, Steve Case is also an author. He wrote “The Third Wave: An Entrepreneur’s Vision of the Future,” a book that became a NY Times bestseller in 2016. The following year, Mr. Case published “Building Silicon Valley Outside of the Valley.”

Founded in 1957, Morning Star Boys’ Ranch provides residential care for boys with behavioral challenges, offering a number of supportive resources for both boys and their families. With a focus on permanent healing and family reunification, the ranch offers individual and family counseling to help overcome challenges associated with adverse childhood experiences, maltreatment, and fetal exposure to drugs and alcohol. It promotes growth and healing in a compassionate environment, fulfilling educational, social, and emotional needs through its various programs.

The ranch’s educational resources include a remedial literacy program, as well as a dedicated school liaison. Each day, personal tutors are available to provide one-on-one instruction based on the boys’ individualized education plans. Morning Star also offers a variety of recreational enrichment activities, including an equine therapy program and agricultural projects in association with 4-H. The organization works to ensure a secure future for each boy that attends the ranch, maintaining a scholarship fund to assist former residents with future educational endeavors.
